New Music Tuesday – Muse’s song Survival

Yes, I am a few days late. I blame it on having a holiday in the middle of the week, because let’s face it, today seems like Tuesday.

Either way, what better way to celebrate summer than with the theme song for the 2012 Summer Olympics? That’s right, Muse’s song Survival is the official song of the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

Plus the official video is also quite inspiring:

New Music Tuesday – Maroon 5’s Overexposed

Yes, I am going to go a little pop on you right now. Just because I am indiebitch, doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy other genres at the same time.

I remember falling in love with Maroon 5 back in 2002, when they played at CU for the New Student Welcome concert on Farrand field. Most people didn’t know who they were, but we all fell in love with Adam Levine. (I mean, how could you not?)

I then tried to see them in 2003 in Las Vegas where they were slated to open for John Mayer, but cancelled at the last minute to go play Saturday Night Live. I was pissed because I drove 12 hours to get there and then they bailed! I was secretly pleased when they sounded like shit on SNL.

I am not really a fan of Payphone (overplayed), but I absolutely love their version of Kiss (last song on this album). Seriously, even if you don’t like their pop singles, take a listen to Kiss, it’ll get you groovin’ in your chair.

Westword Music Showcase 2012

Did you miss the Westword Music Showcase this last Saturday? I hope not, but if you did, here are a few videos of what you missed:

It was a great event, despite the heat. The dance party for Girl Talk was out of control.

I am already looking forward to WMS next year, and of course, to the Underground Music Showcase later in July!

Rolling Stones Women Who Rock – Sleeper Agent

I absolutely love Sleeper Agent. Every time I have seen them play, they put on a great show.

I love how flirty and playful Alex gets with the guys in the band. They are fun to both listen to and to watch.

Vote now to get Alex and Sleeper Agent on the front cover of Rolling Stone for their Women Who Rock contest!

Just click the 5 stars, and then watch the video to see what I mean about how amazing they are.

New Music Tuesday – Walk the Moon

Yes, I am a day late with this one, so sue me.

93.3 KTCL has been playing this Walk the Moon’s song Anna Sun for a few weeks now, but I am really digging the whole album, especially Jenny.

What do you guys think?

Katie Herzig – A Lesson in Listening to Friends

It wasn’t very long ago that Katie Herzig came to Denver for a show. I did not attend, despite being told that I had to go see her. Pretty sure Aimee even offered me a free ticket. Of course, I am now regretting my decision to not attend the show. Doh!

Here is a video of her covering both The Eurhythmics and the White Stripes in one amazing cover song.

Hope you enjoyed it as much as me.

And let this be a lesson to you, when your friends say there is this great concert you should go to? You should listen to them or forever regret not seeing an amazing show.

Westword Music Showcase 2012

WooHoo! The Westword have finally released the lineup. Of course there are many hard decisions to make about who to see where/when but fear not, Kaila and I will create our schedules shortly so you know where to find us.

Now is your chance to win 2 free VIP tickets (and yes, you want VIP). The Westword is running a contest that will upgrade your regular tickets to VIP! See below for info and a partial schedule.

The Hate Album Release Show on 6/15 ft. In The Whale and All Capitals.

After an incredibly hectic week of concerts last week (what else is new), this week is nothing short of the exact same agenda. As I’m sure many of you are already planning, and if you’re not you should be, Monika and I will be at Warped Tour this Sunday – we’re stoked. It’s going to be a really great weekend-topper even more so however when The Hate hosts their album release show at The Hi-Dive with In The Whale and All Capitals. I’ve had a couple chances to listen to the new album thanks to our good friend Mark, bassist for The Hate, and I’m more than looking forward to this release show. With influences like Rancid, Against Me, Foo Fighters, AFI, The Strokes, Rage Against the Machine, and even Jay-Z, The Hate is the type of rebellious sound that attracts my ears before almost any type of music. Like it says almost everywhere you see their name “The Hate is the empowered musical voice of a youth culture that is seeking a new rebellion”.

New Music Video: Talisker Skye “Away”

Talisker Skye has just released this new video for their song “Away” which starts off with a broadcast of the news on the day that Johnny Schou passed away 4 years ago. The reporter says his last name wrong, which pisses me off everytime, but the rest of the video shows Sean Kennedy and the band around a campfire, in a grave and even adds in video of Johnny from their Tickle Me Pink days. I think the song is great and can’t wait to hear what else we will be seeing from Talisker Skye in the future. See Colorado Music Buzz’s article about the band and the video for yourself here.

See the video for yourself!
